I eat to live

Last night I had my first bout of food poisoning. It started out with just a little itchiness and queasiness, and led right up to breaking out in hives and puking repeatedly.

I have to say, getting my wisdom tooth removed was still a more horrific experience.

Not quite wine, but it’ll do

This morning, the power in the office went out. We ended up sitting around in the dark for two and a half hours till the electrician came by and diagnosed the faulty kettle as being the source of our discomfort. As he whizzed off in a heroic flurry, we were left contemplating dehydration and soaking up the welcoming tendrils of sweet, sweet, airconditioned air.

6 hours later, I’m still feeling grimey from a blistering hot morning spent in a confined space with no ventilation, sitting at my desk drinking apple juice to quench my thirst because the kettle is out of bounds and nobody quite wants to drink something that’s come straight out of the slightly dodgy looking tap in the men’s room, wondering how I ended up in the wrong profession – who would have thunk that electricians charged quite so much?

of a surge of familial love

Tonight for dinner the four of us were sprawled out on the floor around the center table in the living room. We were all reading our books, dad with his iPad and scotch, mom with a rum and coke, my sister with a wine, and a beer for me. I looked up while reaching for another tasty fried nugget of deliciousness, and felt a wave of comfort and complacency wash over me.

Life can be good and kind.

Of resolutions

2011′s goals are much the same as previous years, although I didn’t consciously express them to myself last year, which oddly enough seems to make a world of a difference in how well I stick to them.

- more letting go, less mulling. Mulling over things is fine, mulling because of things is not.
- more me-time
- keep track of finances
- find a healthy outlet

One of those is a new addition, and hopefully I’ll be able to make it stick.

For now, I’m getting ready to ring in the new year in a way I haven’t had the opportunity to do in so many years now – with a nice long nap. I hope all of you are celebrating in the  best way you know how, and having a lovely time doing so. Much love :)
